Hi I’m Matt, a final year student at Sheffield Hallam University and much to my delight this week I got to spend the day at Gradconsult! Following my jam packed day I wanted to give a bit of a glimpse of a day with Gradconsult which for me ranged from conducting a practice assessment centre to talking with the team about how much they loved cake.</> >
Kicking it off…>
My day started at 9.30am where I was introduced to the team and campers. Almost immediately I dived straight into my first task- marking CVs. After being so indulged in my own CV for many a year with little insight into other CVs, this was a great chance to broaden my perspective on how to write a great CV. Ultimately I learned that there is no right or wrong- it is essentially down to personal preference! >
Let’s go for a chat…>
Following my marking of the CVs I went for a good old cup of tea with a recent graduate and current Gradconsult employee, Chikka. If anything, the most important thing I took from my chat with Chikka is reassurance; reassurance that a Graduation Scheme isn’t the be all end all in terms of employment post University but rather the world is my oyster and anything I want to do, I can do!>
Nom Nom…>
After an information packed morning, it was now time for lunch. This was where I learnt the real driver for Gradconsult employees, food! They love it, both the taste of it and the real team bonding element it brings with the team having a really good chat over a bite to eat.>
I wanted to do what?>
With a full stomach it was now time to do the best self-assessment I’ve ever done. Using a series of questions I was able to identify my key drivers and from there a lengthy talk through with the team about where I want to go and how best to get there.>
Last but not least…>
My final task with the team was a practice assessment centre. With this being my first one it was great practice and a real challenge- balancing time and quality is easier said than done.>
Some lessons from Gradconsult…>
Overall, my day with the team was fantastic. As a takeaway, if you are ever to spend the day in Gradconsult there are three things you need to remember:
- >
- You’ll have your mind blown. The work the team do is something I’ve never experienced before and genuinely makes you question all your previous ideas for your future. >
- You will do something you’ve never done before. The activities the team conduct are unique and guaranteed to give you a different perspective about career prospects. >
- You’ll eat a lot of food- they love it!
